Quest for Fire in September
Second Sight have announced the UK DVD release of Jean-Jacques Annaud’s Quest for Fire for 25th September 2006 priced at £17.99. Director Annaud (The Name of The Rose, The Bear) directs familiar faces Ron Pearlman (Blade II, Hellboy), Everett McGill (Dune, Twin Peaks) and Rae Dawn Chong (The Color Purple) in this cult favourite.
The film is set 80,000 years in the past, amongst the primitive Ulam tribe who are desperately guarding their most valuable possession, fire. They know how to tend it, how to use it, but its creation remains a mystery. During an attack by a neighbouring tribe their flame is extinguished and it is up to tribesmen Noah (McGill), Amoukar (Pearlman) and Gaw (Nameer El-Kadi) to begin an epic, obstacle filled quest to find another source of the element so precious in their struggle for survival.
In order to develop a realistic feel to this cave-man movie, linguistics expert Anthony Burgess (A Clockwork Orange) was hired as technical consultant to develop a simplistic language for the Ulam tribe. Shot in Iceland, Scotland, Canada and Kenya, Jean-Jacques Annaud’s ground breaking Quest For Fire is an extraordinary view of the dawn of man and a true original.
The DVD is packed with a whole host of extras including director’s commentary, cast commentary, director interview, the making of and an extensive photo gallery with director commentary.
