Star Wars: Original Trilogy announced!
Ever since the invention of DVD, fans have been wanting to travel to a galaxy far, far away - and indulge in the original trilogy of the acclaimed sci-fi saga.
During a recent gathering at The Presido in San Francisco, Lucasfilm executives announced that the original trilogy - A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi - will make their DVD debut in September 2004.
It has also been said that they will be presented in their Special Edition form (cut in the 1990s), and not the original theatrical versions. This will be a mixed blessing to many fans, no doubt.
Details are yet to be confirmed, but expect either individual 2-disc releases (like The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones), or possibly a boxset release similar to Indiana Jones: containing the films on 3 discs, with a bonus disc full of extras. Audio commentaries are a strong possibility, also.
It was mentioned that the trailer for Episode III will be in cinemas from January 2005, and that the DVD release will come in November 2005.
Expect more news soon.
