From the PR:
A stylish and gritty multi-angled drama about crime in Los Angeles, the highly acclaimed Boomtown is unlike any other cop show on TV. Intelligent and sophisticated, the series uses fast paced Pulp Fiction style narrative to uncover crime stories from the viewpoint of everyone involved. Starring Donnie Wahlberg in a role that’s far removed from his days as a ‘New Kid On The Block’, together with his Band Of Brothers co-star Neal McDonough, the first series is currently being re-shown on Five TV and the second series is due to air in January 2004. Now the show’s huge following of loyal fans will be delighted to know that all 18 episodes of the first series will be released in a DVD box set on 17TH November 2003 by Warner Vision.
From Emmy nominated executive producer/writer Graham Yost (Speed, Band Of Brothers), Boomtown has been favourably compared by critics as a cross between CSI and 24, and with ratings matching Six Feet Under and topping The Sopranos, the success of the first series speaks for itself.
Telling the street level story of the City Of Angels with a unique twist, crimes are seen from the diverse perspectives of the city’s unsung and less than perfect heroes – the cops, paramedics, reporters, members of the D.A’s office and city officials whose stories overlap and intertwine, creating the experience that is Boomtown.
Seen from the individual view of the characters involved, all of whom have different sensibilities and agendas, series creator Graham Yost explains, “Sometimes the best way to tell the whole story about something is not to try to tell the whole story, but to tell all the little stories and let the viewers put it together themselves”.
Donnie Wahlberg (Band Of Brothers) stars as dedicated detective Joel Stevens with Mykelti Williamson (Forrest Gump) as “Fearless” Bobby Smith, his easy-going and daredevil partner. Neil McDonough (Minority Report) meanwhile stars as David McNorris, a politically savvy and ambitious Deputy D.A. with Gary Basaraba (Brooklyn South) as Ray Hechler, a veteran patrol officer, Jason Gedrick (The Last Don) as Tom Turcotte, a beat cop struggling to prove himself, Nina Garbiras (The Street) as Andrea Little, a tough metro reporter and Lana Parrilla (Spin City) as Teresa Ortiz, a compassionate paramedic who has already seen too much suffering.
