T. REX On TV Compendium in June
Demon Vision have announced the UK DVD release of T. REX On TV - A T. REX Compendium for 5th June 2006. This release is the first official archive DVD to compile a collection of Marc Bolan and T. Rex's quintessential television appearances on French, German and UK television pop programmes through the seventies.
The definitive 56-minute documentary "DANDY IN THE UNDERWORLD", produced in 1997 by Granada TV for Channel 4 to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Bolan's untimely death. Using archive footage of performance and interviews, the documentary recalls his early career, period in the band John's Children, Tyrannosaurus Rex and T.Rex, his progression from obscurity to superstar and subsequent decline. The film looks at influences on his music including the hippie movement, underground, and soul music, his innovative glam rock style and major influence on the punk scene.
Running for three-and-a-half-hours this music archive DVD showcases five different sections that can be easily accessed in any running order:
The film features contributions from all the major players in Marc's career, including his partner Gloria Jones, Rolan Bolan (son), Harry Feld (brother), Morrissey, T.Rex producer Tony Visconti, Siouxsie Sioux, Billy Idol, publicist Keith Altham, Holly Johnson, childhood friend Eric Hall, former John's Children manager Simon Napier Bell, former NME journalist Charles Shaar Murray, DJ and former Old Grey Whistle Test presenter Bob Harris, T.Rex drummer Bill Legend, Steve Harley, Marsha Hunt and many more.
'"IT'S ABOUT ME REALLY…." - INTERVIEWS AND MUSIC' centres on the 25 minute "Music In The Round" programme recorded in late 1971. In between four live performances of the classics Jeepster, Cadilac, Spaceball Ricochet and Telegram Sam, Marc is interviewed by legendary arts programme maker Humphrey Burton, who at 41 is apparently already too old to rock and roll! Also included is a nine minute interview with Russell Harty from 1972.
"TEN GREATEST HITS" features rarely-seen performances of T. Rex's most successful singles from 1971-1974 on various French, German and British television pop shows. Song performances include Ride A White Swan, Hot Love, Get It On, Jeepster, Telegram Sam, Metal Guru, Children Of The Revolution, Solid Gold Easy Action, 20th Century Boy and Teenage Dream.
The "SUPERSONIC" section features over 50 minutes worth of ultra-rare clips from the fondly-remembered mid-seventies pop show, containing some seventeen performances, most of which have not been seen since their original airing. Song performances include The Soul Of My Suit, New York City, I Love To Boogie, Funky London Childhood, Crimson Moon, Laser Love, Ride A White Swan, Telegram Sam, Dreamy Lady, and a duet with Gloria Jones performing the Phil Spector's classic To Know You Is To Love You.
"BOLAN '77" rounds up seven songs from the Granada series "MARC" that Bolan had just finished recording when he passed away, along with two live performances from the kids' pop quiz show "Get It Together". Song performances include Dandy In The Underworld, Groove A Little, Celebrate Summer, Let's Dance, Sing Me A Song, Endless Sleep and Deborah.
