Saraband (R2) in March

Tartan Video have announced the UK DVD release of Saraband for 27th March 2006 priced at £19.99. Originally made for Swedish TV Saraband is a sequel to 1973’s award-winning Scenes From A Marriage, in which Bergman follows the relationship between Marianne( Liv Ullmann) and Johan (Erland Josephson) twenty years later. Now divorced, she comes to visit her ex-husband for the weekend only to be caught up in the emotional battle between him, his son from a later marriage, and his grand-daughter.

Also released on 27th March is After the Rehearsal (RRP £19.99) in which Bergman brings the worlds of cinema and theatre together as a stage director takes on his new actress and former mistress in a duel of wits as they rehearse a new play. Surface drama conceals the emotional conflicts beneath in this blend of life and art with Bergman employing regular acting collaborators Erland Josephson (Fanny and Alexander; Autumn Sonata), Ingrid Thulin (The Magician; Winter Light; The Silence), and rising Hollywood star Lena Olin (Fanny And Alexander; Chocolat, United States of Leland; Casanova). It also looks at the sacrifices someone might make to their own life for the sake of their art.
