Warner Music Premier New Red Hot Chili Peppers Live DVD

To launch the new Red Hot Chili Peppers DVD, Live At Slane Castle, (Released 17.11.03) Warner Music held a special press screening of the DVD last night. DVD Times was, of course, on hand to sample the free beer....

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Live At Slane Castle was filmed on 23rd August 2003 in front of a sell-out crowd of 80'000. The DVD of the event is released on 17th November, and looks like it's going to be very special indeed.

The screening took place in the private screening room of the plush Charlotte Street Hotel and there was probably no better place to see it; the screen was huge and the acoustics were nigh on perfect. The DVD will have full 5.1 DD and DTS soundtrack and, based on the volume it was played at tonight, it'll give your system a very thorough workout. Songs include Throw Away Your Television, By The Way, Give It Away and, of course, Under The Bridge. There's also a great cover of The Ramones', Havana Affair. The DVD will also feature the animated sequences that are featured in the live show as visual alternatives to the soundtrack.

A major selling point of the film is that it uses technology similar to that seen in The Matrix to give the concert a unique look. Before you groan and click on something else, it's done very well, and is never obtrusive. This digital tomfoolery does suit the Chili Peppers very well, though, as they are nothing if not a kinetic band.
