Almodóvar The Collection: Volume One Review

This boxed set contains four examples of Pedro Almodóvar’s work from the eighties. Though all films can be grouped together as being part of his “early” career, they are nonetheless all different in their own ways whilst also demonstrating a progression. Thus we move from the punkier attitudes of 16mm feature debut Pepi, Luci, Bom… to the more polished and refined comedy of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. In between we also find the wayward comedies of Dark Habits and What Have I Done to Deserve This?. All four films and their discs have received individual reviews, each of which can be accessed by clicking on the links below. In the meantime, Optimum plan for a second volume of the director’s films to be released in the middle of 2006.
