About the making of the 'Greendale' DVD-Audio Album:
Greendale was recorded at the Plywood Barn through vintage Neve and API solid state consoles, a UREI 610 tube console, and several newer tube audiophile mic preamps direct to a Studer A800 2" 16-track analog recorder at 30 ips.
The tracks were mixed at Redwood Digital from A800s through a Neve 8078 class A discrete console in 5.1 and stereo to a Studer 827 2" 8-track analog recorder at 15 ips, and subsequently transferred to magneto optical disc through Pacific Microsonics converters at 96kHz, 24 bit resolution. MIT cable and power conditioning was used throughout the "minimalist" chain to maintain the transparency, detail, and signal to noise ratio of the original tapes and converters.
These "flat" transfers were then loaded at Redwood Digital's mastering suite from the optical discs into Sonic Solution's HD Digital Audio Workstation for assembly, editing, and any needed equalisation, staying entirely in the digital domain. The final 96kHz, 24 bit HDCD "master", stored on hard drive was then shipped to Georgetown Masters for final manufacturing preparation.
