Primer in February

Tartan Video have announced the UK DVD release of Primer for 27th February 2006 priced at £19.99. What happens if you have a crazy idea that works? Time travel from your garage? For software engineers, Aaron and Abe, a chance discovery of protein helps them make the vital breakthrough which enables them to make short time trips. It maybe only a matter of hours but it’s a time loop that overlaps events and endangers meetings with themselves. They plan to use it to make a killing on the stock market, but when they witness another type of killing, paranoia and sleep-deprivation threaten their control

Shane Carruth’s PRIMER is a dazzling adventure in intelligent film-making on a shoestring. Imagine Stephen Hawkins writing Back To The Future. Baffling and enigmatic, it’s a good exercise for the brain muscles which like the Rubik’s Cube, unravels its secrets the more you play it. Made virtually for peanuts, a few nuts and bolts and $7,000, it won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival. An achievement almost as impossible as time travel itself for Shane Carruth. As well as directing it, he wrote and edited it, composed the music, and took one of the leading roles himself. With few special effects and no Time Lord at the controls, he has created a challenging sci-fi tale that stands admirably alongside THX1138, Memento, and Pi. A visual riddle that could baffle the Sphinx. A unique mind-twister that reveals its mysteries with every viewing.
