'The Peter Sellers Story...As He Filmed It' in October

Cinema Club have announced the UK DVD release of The Peter Sellers Story...As He Filmed It for 24th October 2005 priced at £15.99. To commemorate this year's 80th anniversary of Peter Sellers birth, 'The Peter Sellers Story...As He Filmed It' will be released on DVD with the previously un-broadcast Academy Award nominated short film The Running Jumping & Standing Still Film as an extra for the first time. Never previously shown outside the cinema circuit and rarely seen since the early 1960s, The Running Jumping & Standing Still Film was filmed by Richard Lester (A Hard Day's Night, Superman II and III) making his directorial debut over two Sundays at a cost of £700 (including £5 for the hire of the field).

Filmed using Sellers' new Bolex 16mm camera, it boasts a series of extraordinarily original and surreal vignettes set to Lester's composed music and accompanying birdsong. A Goon reunion in 1959 resulted in this home movie being made ostensibly by friends, for friends, but who were, in truth, desperate to break into film. This ground-breaking eleven minute film marks Messrs. Sellers' and Milligan's first excursion into visual comedy and features the comedic talents of Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan, Richard Lester, Graham Stark and others. The film, devised by Sellers, earned him the first of three Oscar nominations (Best Short Subject, Live Action Subjects, Peter Sellers)

'The Peter Sellers Story' presents an intriguing and intimate portrait of one of the world's greatest comic actors using a unique collection of Peter Sellers' own home movies discovered years after his death and on which he obsessively recorded his life between 1948 and 1977.

Told in his own words, and including many well-known personalities from Stanley Kubrick, Sophia Loren and Robert Wagner to members of the Royal Family, in particular Princess Margaret and Prince Charles, this revealing film builds a fascinating and definitive record of a unique genius.

Re-cut from the original 1995 BAFTA nominated 'Arena' documentary, the DVD also includes a collection of fascinating extras. These include:

  • The short film 'I Say, I Say, I Say' filmed by Snowdodeodo Productions over one weekend in 1964, with Peter Sellers, Britt Ekland, Princess Margaret, Lord Snowdon and Jocelyn Stephens. (10:42mins)
  • An interview never seen before as Sellers confiscated the film the day after it was shot at his home in Ireland, feeling that it was too revealing about himself. (26:05mins)
  • TWA ads (director Stan Dragotti) - Peter's pure genius playing three different characters, from 1975 - Vito de Motion, the Latin lover, Jeremy Peak-Time, the English toff and Thrifty McTravel, the miserly Scottish tourist. (7:25mins)
  • PG Tips ads from the 1950s. (56seconds)
  • Photo gallery from Peter's private family album.
