3 Iron (R2) in November
Optimum Asia have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of 3 Iron for 7th November 2005 priced at £19.99. From the director of Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring Again... comes 3 IRON (Bin-Jip), an enchanting and ghostly love story set in modern day Korea. Directed by critics’ favourite and often controversial film-maker Kim Ki-Duk,, 3 IRON manages to combine moments of utter beauty whilst showing us the cruelty and violence of modern day life.
Starring Lee Seung-yeon and Jae Hee, 3 IRON tells the story of Tae-suk, a young drifter who enters strangers’ houses – and lives – whilst their owners are away. He spends a night or a day in each house, repaying the owner’s unwitting hospitality by doing laundry or small repairs. His life changes when he runs into a beautiful woman in an affluent mansion who is ready to escape her unhappy, abusive marriage.
The title 3 IRON refers to the golf club, which many golfers would recognise as the least used club. As Kim Ki-Dul says, “Imagine the 3 iron stuck in an expensive leathery golf bag but only rarely used. Its image parallels that of an abandoned person or an empty house. At the same time it is a tool with which Tae-suk rescues Sun-hwa and so signifies a hopeful change as well.”
The film will be presented in the original Korean language (Dolby Digital 5.1) with English subtitles.
