The 40-Year-Old Virgin (R1) in December

Universal Studios Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of The 40-Year-Old Virgin for 13th December 2005 priced at $29.98 SRP. In this smash hit comedy, Steve Carell, best known for playing Brick Tamland in Anchorman, takes the title role of a nerdish electronics store clerk who harbours an embarassing secret. Catherine Keener and Paul Rudd also star.

Available in a new longer Unrated Cut (133mins) with both Widescreen and Full Frame releases, the Theatrical Cut (117mins) will also be available but in Full Frame only. All editions present the film with English DD5.1 Surround audio, French and Spanish DD2.0 Stereo audio and optional English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles.

Bonus features include:

  • Gag reel: Hilarious on-set moments with cast and crew.
  • “You know how I know you’re gay-” With commentary by director/co-writer Judd Apatow and actor/co-producer Seth Rogen: Features never-before-seen extra material of David (Paul Rudd) and Cal (Seth Rogen) doing their infamous “You Know How I Know You’re Gay” routine.
  • 1970s Sex Education Film (Rated version only)
  • Line-o-rama: A look at the cast on the set doing different variations of the same line.
  • Waxing “documentary”: A four camera behind-the-scenes look at Steve Carell’s chest being waxed.
  • Deleted scenes with commentary by director/co-writer Judd Apatow and actor/co-producer Seth Rogen
  • Date-a-palooza: Additional deleted footage of the crazy speed dating scene.

    The unrated DVD features an extended film with over 17 minutes of never-before-seen footage, many of the aforementioned bonus materials, plus the following outrageous features:
