Pathé's World Cinema Wave 2 in October

Pathé Distribution Ltd. have announced their second wave of new World Cinema titles for released on UK Region 2 DVD. Arriving on 31st October 2005 are ten films in the 'Your Other Cinema' range...

On connaît la chanson – Comedy/Drama/Musical (French) - From acclaimed director Alain Resnais comes this delightful musical tribute to Dennis Potter’s The Singing Detective. The film follows a group of Parisians looking for happiness who keep bumping into each other along the way.

Fire – Drama (Hindi/English) - Fire tackles many taboo Indian subjects such as adultery and lesbianism. Director Deepa Mehta tells the story of Sita, a beautiful and intelligent woman who is forced into a loveless arranged marriage.

Fiesta – Drama (French) - A compelling study of the seductive powers of fascism and violence, directed by Pierre Boutron. The film looks at the deeply disturbing world of the Spanish Civil War and follows a young military cadet who is ordered to join the firing squad.

Autumn Sun (Sol de otoño) – Drama (Argentina) - Clara Goldstein is a lovely, middle-aged Jewish woman. She is forced to put an ad in the local newspaper and make up a relationship with a man of the same faith before her American brother comes to visit.

Pretty Village, Pretty Flame - Comedy/Drama/ War (Serb-Croat/English) - Directed by Srdjan Dragojevic, the film focuses on two young boys, Halil (Nikola Kojo), a Muslim, and Milan (Dragan Bjelogrlic), a Serb, who have grown up together. Twelve years later, during the Bosnian War they find themselves fighting on opposing sides.

Nelly & Monsieur Arnaud – Drama (French) - Claude Sautet directs this witty and beautifully moving story of Nelly who leaves her husband to take on a typing job with a wealthy elderly friend, Arnaud. As quiet intimacy grows between Nelly and the temperamental Arnaud, jealousy threatens when Nelly starts to date Arnaud’s publisher.

French Twist (Gazon maudit) – Comedy (French) - Hilarious comedy starring Victoria Abril as Loli, the wife of a womaniser whose life is turned upside down when she discovers her husband’s affairs. As revenge for his infidelities she invites the mysterious and sensitive lesbian Marijo (director/actress Josiane Balasko) to live with them.

In All Innocence – Drama/Comedy/Romance (French) - Two young thieves, Cécile and Samira talk their way into an art gallery where they steal food and help themselves to wallets in the clock room. As they up the stakes and hold a jeweller at gun point they are arrested and need a lawyer. Cécile decides she will approach a lawyer she robbed earlier for help.

Earth – Drama (Hindi/English) - Deepa Mehta, also director of Fire, explores the Indian relationships of families with diverse religious backgrounds, namely Muslin, Hindu, Sikh and Parsee. Much of the story is seen through the eyes of a young Parsee girl call Lenny.

La Séparation – Drama (French) - This impressive drama tells the story of Pierre and Anne, a Parisian couple with a young child, whose relationship deteriorates and disintegrates during the course of the film.
