Manga's New Acquisitions

Manga detailed several new acquisitions over the weekend at the London MCM Expo, and have now issued the following press release confirming titles we can expect over the next year...


As the pioneer of anime in the UK, Manga has always strived to offer fans the cutting edge of Japanese animation. Now with the growth of anime into mainstream entertainment Manga are once again at the forefront of this rapidly growing industry.

THE HOME OF THE LEGENDARY GHOST IN THE SHELL

1995’s Ghost in the Shell broke the mould in the UK and US with its pre-The Matrix evocative visuals and breathtaking sci-fi noir stunning theatrical audiences of the time. Now Manga UK is proud to announce that they will release the highly anticipated sequel Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence in 2005 for UK/Eire theatrical release.

2006 will then not only see the release of a UK exclusive DVD release of the film but also the Mamoru Oshi directed debut of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: 2nd GiG TV series on DVD. With continued sales of the original Ghost in the Shell film and constantly growing sales of the current Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series these latest acquisitions of critically acclaimed anime will excite fans and mainstream audiences alike as the genre continues to grow.

THE CREAM OF JAPANESE FILMMAKING

Manga will in 2005 also bring to UK DVD audiences the profoundly vivid Millennium Actress, the critically acclaimed new feature length anime film from Satoshi Kon, the director of Perfect Blue. Filled with rich imagery this homage to the golden age of Japanese cinema explores the 80-year life of a fictional actress Chiyuko in a mix of drama, humour and great warmth. This will further inspire those who adored Spirited Away and further underlines Manga’s commitment to bringing UK audiences truly exceptional anime.

THE ROBOTS ADVANCE…

After UK cinema audiences delighted in having their brains fried by the cyberpunk sci-fi film Casshern (from Momentum Pictures), Manga are delighted to bring to DVD Casshan – Robot Hunter; the inspiration of Casshern. This OVA will give fans fresh from buying the hot-selling DVD of Casshern the chance to see how the enslavement of humanity by robots plays out when it’s decided that man should be wiped out for good! Casshan – Robot Hunter will prove irresistible to everyone that enjoyed Casshern and will be popular with all hardcore anime mecha fans.

AND A CLASSIC IS BROUGHT TO UK DVD

20 years after creating a million anime fans in the west the classic Robotech anime series comes to UK DVD. Now fully digitally remastered this 84-episode epic will thrill like never before with its blend of action, adventure, mystery and most importantly robots!
