From the press release...
The entire works of Samuel Beckett delivered in a stunning four-disc collection.
Probably the most significant Irish playwright of the 20th century, Samuel Beckett caused a sensation when his play Waiting for Godot was first staged in 1953 and he has influenced generations of directors and talent in film, television and theatre.
The award winning, Beckett on Film, brings together some of the most talented directors and distinguished actors working today to recreate all 19 of Beckett’s plays on film for the first time ever.
The project was the brainchild of Michael Colgan, the artistic director of the Gate Theatre, Dublin and was created to bring the writer’s remarkable collection of work to a wider audience through an easily accessible medium. Each of the hugely talented directors – Beckett fans one and all – handpicked one of his plays and its cast and were not allowed to change any of Beckett’s specific directions.
Directors include Atom Egoyan, Damien Hirst, Neil Jordan, Conor McPherson, Damien O'Donnell, David Mamet and Anthony Minghella. The exceptional acting talent involved includes Michael Gambon, the late John Gielgud, John Hurt, Jeremy Irons, Julianne Moore, Harold Pinter, Alan Rickman and Kristin Scott Thomas.
