Here is the pack shot once again and further details from the PR including an explanation behind the ‘Disney Enhanced Theatre Mix’...

    From the PR:

For the first time ever, the number one Academy Award ® winning animated film of all time The Lion King is available in digital presentation as a two disc Special Edition Disney DVD. From 31st October, DVD and film enthusiasts will be able to enjoy an enhanced viewing experience of two versions of the film - the original theatrical release and a re-mastered version. The re-mastered version features ‘Morning Report’, an all new song composed by Oscar winners Elton John and Tim Rice, plus a never before seen animated sequence to accompany the song.

Furthermore, the Special Edition has an abundance of exciting DVD bonus features that take you deep into the background of this tremendous film as well as a host of games including a revolutionary virtual safari DVD extra in 5.1 Surround Sound. There are two ways to experience the safari via a nightime jeep tour or boat tour. Both are hosted by the comical duo Timon and Pumbaa and feature specially created scripts and 3D animation sequences for the DVD extra. The result is a virtual theme park ride in your living room.

Also a first for Disney is the Disney Enhanced Theatre Mix which appears on the Special Edition DVD. As befits the ‘King of DVDs’, this mix has been specially designed to perform on home theatre systems for everyone to see, hear and interact with the new DVD elements like never before. Engineered to create a more dynamic and spatially enhanced audio experience – similar to the sound quality used in cinemas - viewers will feel totally immersed in The Lion King environment. For example, in the wildebeest stampede the sound conveys the sensation that the animals are literally rolling over the viewer delivering a much more intense experience with much more depth and texture.

Finally each frame of the original film has been painstakingly restored with dust and dirt removed to give The Lion King DVD the finest quality visual impression. From the magnificent musical opening over breathtaking African vistas to its rip roaring emotional climax, The Lion King reigns supreme as one of animation’s greatest crowning achievements.
Set amid the majestic beauty of the Serengeti, it is an epic coming of age saga that has received over 30 awards applauding its outstanding musical score and sumptuous animation, as well as many other aspects of the production. The visual spectacle is one of Disney’s most requested films and is an essential addition to every film collection.

    STORY SYNOPSIS
Simba, an inquisitive and cheeky young lion cub, is desperate to find his place in nature’s circle of life and follow in the regal paw prints of his father King Musafa. However, his treacherous Uncle Scar has other ideas. Incensed that Simba’s birth has resulted in his displacement as heir to the throne, Scar plots with an army of hyena henchmen to kill his brother Mufasa. When Simba is caught up in the stampede orchestrated by Scar to kill Musafa, Scar convinces Simba he is responsible for his father’s death and that he must run far away from the Pride Lands and never return.

The frightened prince flees into exile where he is befriended by a wacky but warm-hearted warthog, Pumbaa and his freewheeling meerkat companion Timon. Adopting a ‘hakuna matata’ (no worries) attitude to life, he lives off a diet of bugs whilst taking things one day at a time as he matures into a young adult. But a chance encounter with his childhood friend Nala persuades Simba to return home after he learns of the hard times and devastation that have befallen the Pride Lands under Scar’s reign. Will Simba be able to defeat Scar and his army of hyenas to take his reclaim rightful place as the Lion King in the circle of life?

    VOICE TALENT
The feature film is brought to life with a stellar cast of voice talent. Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Godzilla and The Cable Guy) conveys both humour and drama in his portrayal of the lead character Simba, whilst the warm regal baritones of James Earl Jones (Fantasia 2000, Patriot Games, Hunt for Red October, and Field of Dreams) are a perfect fit with the grand and dignified role of Musafa.

Jeremy Irons (Time Machine, House of Spirits and The Mission) demonstrates his Academy Award winning talents in his interpretation of the sinister and treacherous Scar and Rowan Atkinson (Johnny English, Bean and Blackadder) delivers a wonderfully comic performance as Mufasa’s major domo, Zazu. Multi-talented actress Whoopi Goldberg’s (The Colour Purple, Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Ghost and Sister Act I and II) infectious laughter is brought to life in her less than sisterly act as Shenzi, the leader of the hyena trio recruited to do Scar’s evil bidding. Other vocal talent includes Robert Guillaume (Benson, Lean on Me and Silicon Towers) as Rafiki, Moira Kelly (The West Wing, Chaplin) as adult Nala.
