Star Wars Confirmed, sort of!

The Digital Bits have now confirmed with LucasFilm that Star Wars is definitely in production.

LucasFilm representative, Jeannie Cole, said "Yes, Lucasfilm has officially begun work on DVDs for the Star Wars films, but it is still far too soon to know which films will be released when and what the content will be. It is up to George to decide the content of the discs, and they will not be released in 2000, nor is there any firm date beyond this year."

The company have denied rumours that there will be any extra or deleted scenes.

One thing I'm certain of is that the recent 'petition' will not have had any real effect, despite what LucasFilm say. As many have said all along, this is just a easy way of making it look like George Lucas is bowing to fan pressure when in all honesty I am sure he has been planning to make this post-VHS announcement for some time.
