Anchor Bay Titles
Some good releases due from Anchor Bay this autumn. This is a label which has recovered from a shaky start with some absolutely cracking titles, notably those in the Dario Argento collection.
Anyway, here are the details.
On the 29th August comes the long awaited Evil Dead 2 in both a collector's edition and a special edition tin. Both of these seem to have the same features as far as I can tell, although the tin costs $10 more. Anyway, there is a commentary from Bruce Campbell, Sam Raimi, the writer Scott Spiegel and the effects wizard Greg Nicotero, and a featurette called "The Gore The Merrier". Also on the disc are stills galleries and the original trailer. The film has been given a new anamorphic 1.85:1 transfer and the soundtrack is in Dolby Digital 5.1.
On the same date we have the non-awaited Santa Claus The Movie, a film which I thought had been condemned to lie forever in a hermetically sealed vault. Anyway, there are both anamorphic 1.85:1 and fullscreen versions being released, both in Dolby Digital 5.1. The disc also contains a commentary from the director, a featurette and the trailer. This all costs $24.95.
Horror fans may be delighted with at least one of the two other big releases.
On the 22nd August, Halloween 5 is unleashed upon us, again in a standard edition or a more expensive special tin. The disc has an anamorphic 1.85:1 transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, an introduction from what the press release calls "stars Danielle Harris and Ellie Cornell" and a documentary called "Inside Halloween 5". It's a strange world.
On the 19th September comes the rather more welcome reissue of Clive Barker's excellent Hellraiser with an anamorphic 1.85:1 transfer, a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, an audio commentary from Director Clive Barker and star Ashley Laurence, "Resurrection" making-of featurette, cast bios and the trailer. The SRP is $29.95.
Finally, a bit of culture. the 15th August sees the release of the Werner Herzog classic Woyzeck and the documentary about Klaus Kinski, My Best Fiend. Both have anamorphic widescreen transfers and soundtracks in English and German 1.0 Mono and include the trailer and cast & crew bios. The SRP is $29.95 for each.
