The Bridge On The River Kwai

In the week when we have heard the sad news of the death of Sir Alec Guinness, Columbia have announced details of the DVD Region 1 release of The Bridge On The River Kwai, the film for which he won an Oscar.

There will be two versions. Firstly, a bare bones single disc with an anamorphic 2.35:1 transfer, 5.1 and 2.0 soundtracks, trailer and talent files. This will have an SRP of $24.95.

The second version is a two disc special edition. The first disc is the film as above, while the second is packed with good things. We get a documentary about the making of the film, an original featurette about the film, a USC Short Film narrated by the American star of the movie William Holden, an Appreciation and Discussion by Filmmaker John 'Conan' Milius, a Photo Montage with advertising and behind the scenes material. There are also some DVD-ROM features, including a tricia game, strategy, maps and a screensaver. This has a recommended price of $39.95, but will no doubt be reduced for pre-order from the various on-line stores.
