Yet more on the Playstation 2...

Further to our story yesterday, it appears I made a couple of minor mistakes. First up, although the Playstation 2 will not come with a remote control it doesn't neccessarily need one - you should be able to play DVD discs on the player straight out of the box using the supplied 'dual-shock' controller. Interestingly, the PS2 is expected to ship with a SCART lead as opposed to the RF cable supplied with earlier consoles - it should also support RGB playback. As for our report that some stores hadn't sold their entire allocation, we're standing by what we said. Sony have allocated all of their players, but some shops still have yet to take enough pre-orders to meet their allocation. Thanks to industry insider, Sven Harvey for the information above. Another interesting bit of news from trade magazine MCV is that Virgin have announced that they are not planning to stock the entire range of PS2 software as they feel there are too many sub-standard titles in the launch line-up and not enough consoles available to make stocking every game cost-effective. At last we're beginning to see a little sense - publishers should be concentrating on quality titles as opposed to the usual pap they usually produce.
