David Fincher's Se7en is due for DVD re-release on 19 December replacing the original extra-free flipper release currently available. The new release will be a 2-disc special edition and will feature a remastered anamorphic 2.40:1 transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1EX, DTS 6.1ES and Discrete Stereo sound. The extras sound impressive but are they just more fluff? They look like this:

Disc 1

  • DVD-ROM: Printable screenplay
  • Four brand new audio commentaries consisting of the following:
    • The Stars featuring David Fincher (Director), Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman
    • The Story hosted by Richard Dyer, Author of the BFI Modern Classics Series' Seven and featuring David Fincher, Screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker, Editor Richard Francis-Bruce and New Line President of Production Michael De Luca
    • The Picture features Richard Dyer, David Fincher, Richard Francis-Bruce, Director of Photography Darius Khondji and Production Designer Arthur Max and examines the 'look' of the film
    • The Sound looks at the audio aspects of the production and features Richard Dyer, David Fincher, Composer Howard Shore and Sound Designer Ren Klyce

Disc 2

  • Exploration of Opening Title Sequence with six audio selections including Dobly EX, DTS ES, 24 bit/96 Khz Stereo, Stereo Surround Sound and two audio commentaries featuring the designer and audio engineers.
  • Seven deleted scenes with an audio commentary by David Fincher giving an insight in to the reasons for their ommision
  • 6 Galleries with commentaries by Arthur Max, Melodie McDaniel, David Fincher and Peter Sorel
  • Promotional Material, including original trailer, an Electronic Press Kit featuring interviews with Brad Pittand Morgan Freeman and a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of the orignal negative for this DVD release.
  • DVD-ROM: John Doe's World

Looks like it could be something special. Further information on the DVD release can be found on the new web site.

Entertainment in Video are planning to release their own two-disc version of Se7en some time early next year. Details aren't available yet but it is likely that the UK disc will feature pretty much all of what is available on the Region 1 disc.
