DVD Plus call in the liquidators
Pioneering Region 2 DVD retailer DVD Plus have called in the liquidators after running into financial problems. The company, one of the first to sell Region 2 DVD discs online in the UK, was finally closed on Monday following a period of difficulty which first saw them stop taking advance orders on discs.
In a statement by Guy Rowland over at The Region 2 Project, the closure comes despite the e-Tip system brought in to try and increase business. This system meant that discs were sold on to the customer at cost price + postage and it was up to the customer to 'pledge' an e-Tip of whatever value they felt suitable given the level of service they received.
While the scheme did increase business, the revenue did not increase in the same way making it impossible for DVD Plus to continue trading. While it was successful, it really was a case of too little, too late...
Anyone who has placed orders and has been charged is being advised to contact their credit card company for a refund - credit card insurance covers events such as these.
