Warner titles include Blade Runner and 2001 special editions

Warner seems to be jumping on the special edition bandwagon with a vengeance this year. Superman sees a two-disc release in May (together with single-disc releases of all the sequels plus a boxed set of all four), while Blade Runner is on course for late this year.

They're also remastering all the titles in the controversial Kubrick Collection, which will include a special edition of 2001. No date has been set for the latter, but it will be towards the end of the year. Other classics making their debut on Region 1 include Citizen Kane and Dr Zhivago.

The best news for me, though, is that they're finally going to be releasing the Looney Toons cartoon classics featuring such cultural giants as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and the Road Runner - it's hard to think of a better medium for these seven-minute masterpieces than DVD with its instant chapter selection. No dates have been fixed yet, the first discs should appear this year.
