Mirror, mirror on the wall...
...who's the fairest DVD of all?
What with Tarzan, Fantasia, A Bug's Life and Toy Story proving that Disney can do stunning special editions when they can be bothered, hopes are very high indeed for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, coming out in Region 1 in October as the first in their Platinum Edition series - a ten-year project to release what they believe to be their ten greatest animated films in suitably epoch-defining special editions.
According to a Buena Vista spokesman, these discs will be even more impressive than their already outstanding Fantasia package - which, if true, will have animation fans drooling - but no firm details have been announced as yet.
However, we do know the other titles that will be given the Platinum treatment: Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Bambi, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmatians.
Every autumn between 2001 and 2010, one of these titles will be released as the centrepiece of a massive marketing campaign - but as yet there's no news as to which films are being released in which year. However, we've reproduced the titles in the order they were printed on the press release, in case that gives any clues.
