Upcoming Region 1 releases

While we still don't have a regular Region 1 news service, I thought I'd sift through as many announcements as I can to ensure that you're all kept up to date. For more in depth Region 1 news, I personally recommend the occasional visit to DVD File - which is in my view, by far and away the best Region 1 news site...

Warner have announced a release for Space Cowboys on 17 April. It will feature a 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer, DD5.1 sound, four mini-documentarys on the making of the film, a trailer gallery and essays.

Also from Warner we have Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality which is due for release on 1 May. The disc will of course feature an anamorphic transfer, DD5.1 sound along with two commentary tracks, two documentary shorts and the theatrical trailer.

Finally, Warner have also announced the Superman Collection for release on the same day. This four disc set will feature all four Superman films - the boxset wont contain any additional material over the individual discs, but will retail for slightly less than you'd have to pay for each disc separately.

The Region 1 release of Billy Elliot is pencilled in for 17 April - two weeks after we get the disc. Features wise, it should match our release.

Almost Famous is out on 13 March thanks to Dreamworks- this critically acclaimed film is currently doing the rounds in the cinemas in thus country, so the Region 1 DVD release offers a good alternative to visiting your local multiplex. It should be noted that there will be a second release for this film featuring a longer cut at some unspecified date in the future, so if you want the ultimate version it may be worth waiting. Those who don't want to wait shouldn't be too disappointed - the disc will feature an anamorphic transfer and both Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks. We can also expect a making-of featurette, a music video and various text-based articles.

Artisan are to release Requiem for a Dream on 22 May. The disc will feature an anamorphic transfer, an audio commentary, deleted scenes and making-of featurettes.

TV-wise, Season 3 of The X Files is due on 8 May, once again in the form of a seven-disc boxset. And, those of you holding off buying the Stargate SG1 boxset because you've already bought the first disc will be glad to hear that each volume will be released individually on 22 May.
