Citizen Kane on R1 at last ?
Interesting story in the LA Times.... They report that Warner Brothers will be releasing Orson Welles' legendary Citizen Kane in a special edition during the Autumn.
They report that it will be:
mastered from a recently discovered original fine-grain master positive stored at the Cinematheque Royale in Brussels. It turns out that this 1941 nitrate fine grain (most likely sold overseas by RKO in the 1950s with the film's international television rights) is the oldest and best pre-printing source available, yielding greater sharpness than believed possible.
Very exciting news this, and it seems that there will be some rather tasty extra features to go along with the new print. No news of these as yet, but watch this space...
