De Palma Fest On DVD

Lots of news about the upcoming releases of a number of Brian de Palma's best films on R1 - I know not everyone shares my enthusiasm for his work, but the selection promises to provide something to please most film fans.

Along with the already announced Carrie, Dressed To Kill and Blow Out discs from MGM, Fox are releasing Phantom Of The Paradise and The Fury on the 4th of September. Both titles will be featureless, but we are promised anamorphic widescreen transfers and remixed 5.1 soundtracks.

Meanwhile, Columbia have confirmed the release, at the end of the year, of Casualties of War, in a special edition containing a new documentary by Laurent Bouzereau. Joining this will be a new release of Carlito's Way from Universal, also featuring an exclusive documentary. There is also a rumour that a new version of Scarface may be on the way, with extended interview footage with Michelle Pfeiffer and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.

Thanks to The Digital Bits and De Palma A La Mod for this information. Also, thanks to Dave Lawrence and Stuart Garland for pointing the news out to me in the first place....
