DVD Gamecube details announced

Masushita have announced their DVD-compatible version of Nintendo's Gamecube console under their Panasonic brandname. Due in 'early November', the "Fusion" DVD Player/Gamecube hybrid is designed to play both DVD movies and Gamecube games and will retail for 40,000 yen - 5,000 yen more than the current retail price of the DVD-compatible Sony Playstation 2.

Previous reports had suggested that the DVD-compatible version of the system would be made available at around the same time as the standard console's launch in September but Masushita now claim that more time is needed to finalize production details.

The expected US release for the device is scheduled for sometime between March 2002 and March 2003. The standard Nintendo-released console is due on 5 November in the US retailing at $199.95 - the European release is expected in Spring 2002 retailing at around £200.
