Seven R4 releases from Fox

Fox announced seven more Region 4 DVD releases this week. Let's take a look:

First comes How Green Was My Valley. Starring Maureen O'Hara and Walter Pidgeon, this 1941 film-of-the-book from director John Ford tells the story of the Morgans, a family living in a Welsh mining town at the turn of the century. The DVD will include four original theatrical trailers (only one of which is for this film) and a cast gallery.

Next is An Affair To Remember, written and directed in 1957 by Leo McCarey. Cary Grant stars in this humourous love story, which was nominated for four Academy Awards. This disc will also feature a cast gallery, and the same four trailers as How Green Was My Valley (All About Eve, Gentleman’s Agreement, An Affair To Remember, How Green Was My Valley).

All About Eve follows the progress of an aspiring young actress called - surprisingly enough - Eve, as she tries to worm her way into, and take over, the life of Broadway star Margo Channing. Bette Davis and Anne Baxter star, and the DVD will contain a cast gallery and two of the four trailers (All About Eve, Gentleman's Agreement) from the previous discs.

Moving forward almost 50 years, we have Anastasia, the 1997 animated film based on the true story of the daughter of the last Russian Tsar. The film includes the voices of Meg Ryan and John Cusack, and the disc has a little more in the way of extra features than the previous three in this article: two featurettes, two 'sing-alongs', a multi-language clip reel and three interactive puzzles will all feature.

The 1997 version of Miracle On 34th Street is based on the classic original made 50 years earlier. The DVD will contain only the theatrical trailer by way of extra material.

Gentleman's Agreement was one of the first films to deal directly with the issue of racial prejudice, and follows a reporter who pretends to be Jewish in order to write a story on anti-Semitism in America. It stars Gregory Peck and was directed by Elia Kazan. The disc features the same two theatrical trailers as All About Eve (above).

Finally, 1972's The Poseidon Adventure is the story of ten survivors who try to escape from a capsized ocean liner. With a cast of 15 Academy Award winners, including Gene Hackman, the film has been compared to Titanic, just 'twice as good, half as long'. The DVD does not appear to have any extra features.

All these discs will appear on 31 October.
