The Brat Pack invade DVD
It seems 2001 will be remembered as the year in which many classics received their DVD release, with both The Godfather and Citizen Kane, considered by many to be the best movies ever made, being released before the end of the year. Yet another true classic has been announced for a R1 release before the year's end, and I've no doubt that movie buffs will want to pick up this one up as well - St Elmo's Fire. Columbia announced last week that the disc will be released on the 20th of November and will feature an anamorphic widescreen transfer, Dolby Digital English 5.1 and 2.0 surround audio tracks, English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Thai, Korean and Chinese subtitles, a director's audio commentary, the John Parr "Man In Motion" music video, filmographies, production notes and "bonus" trailers. The retail price is $24.95.
Directed by Joel Schumacher (8MM), 1985's St. Elmo's Fire starred many of the so-called "Brat Pack" - Emilio Estevez (Stakeout), Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club), Demi Moore (A Few Good Men), Andrew McCarthy (Weekend at Bernie's), Ally Sheedy (Short Circuit) and the superb Rob Lowe (The West Wing) - as a group of college graduates uncertain about their own futures and struggling with their relationships with friends and loved ones.
This appears to be very similar to the current UK R2 release, which I believe has everything listed here besides the 5.1 audio track and the music video.
Thanks to DVD File for the disc information.
