In further Fox Home Video news May 21st will see them release 10 Single Disc, 4:3 Pan&Scan editions from their back catalogue. The 10 titles in question are...

  • The Abyss
  • Anna and the King
  • Big Momma's House
  • Cast Away
  • Edward Scissorhands
  • Entrapment SE
  • Independence Day
  • Lake Placid
  • Men of Honour SE
  • Predator (DTS)
The Abyss, Cast Away and Independence Day lose all of their extra features with the exception of Cast Away which maintains its Audio Commentary. All other releases feature the same Extra features as the current Widescreen editions.

These releases are being made to cater for the thankfully small majority of consumers who prefer to see their 4:3 TV Sets used to their fullest (despite the loss of picture information) but what is quite disturbing is the rumours that Fox are actually discontinuing the current Widescreen and in some cases, 2-disc Special Editions that are available for these titles! We can only hope these rumours are false, or that Fox are to re-release the current editions at a lower price point around the same time as these 4:3 releases.

A huge thanks to DVDEnfrancais.com for the details.
