European publishing group Escapi Media BV has joined forces with Extreme Group, the broadcaster, distributor and producer of sports programming, to release a comprehensive record of the World Extreme Games (WEG).
The World Extreme Games are the alternative Olympics for Extreme Sports participants around the globe and Melbourne was the venue for the recent event. Extreme Group’s own Extreme Sports Channel was the original sponsor of the event, which has already been distributed to an audience of extreme sports fanatics around the world. The complete coverage is now available to buy on six separate VHS cassette or DVD volumes. It will be retailed by major and independent retailers alike, including Extreme Group’s own subsidiary Extreme Pie – the Shop (see www.extremepie.com).
Each volume includes a total of 1 hour and 16 minutes of pure adrenalin encompassing a variety of different sports such as Wakeboarding, BMX, Sky Surfing, Skateboarding, Mountain Boarding, Kite Surfing, Moto X and many more.
This project is the result of collaboration between two forward-thinking and innovative companies, one with unparalleled expertise in the production and broadcast of this kind of sporting event, the other with a broad knowledge of how to produce a retail product on VHS & DVD of such content.
Ben Barrett, Director of Extreme Group commented:"Extreme Group is very pleased with this venture with Escapi in promoting the World Extreme Games on DVD. This is our first step into the DVD marketplace, which we are confident will be a great success in terms of unit sales, and the building of the World Extreme Games brand. It is an example of our commitment to develop all our projects across multiple media, using our own vertically integrated distribution structure as well as the expertise of third parties, for our own brands and, in the future, for others."
Peter Anneroth, Managing Director of Escapi Media was in buoyant mood on the release of what he sees as a major achievement: “This is a landmark release for Escapi because it has shown our commitment to producing product for niche markets as well as the mainstream, without compromising the effort involved and the quality of the end product. This release is a shining example of what can be achieved when content and production values are at maximum. WEG 2000 on DVD is truly awesome and we’re all very proud of how it turned out.”
