Peter Watkins' Punishment Park on DVD
Filmed in 1971 and unavailable in the US, Peter Watkins' Punishment Park has finally been released on DVD by a small French company, Doriane Films. Using the same docu-drama style that he used so effectively in The War Game (banned by the Beeb for 20 years), Watkins turns his camera on Nixon-era America filming an imaginary game forcing "anti-American" elements to fight for their lives. The DVD has been encoded in NTSC and is coded as All-Zone (probably to maximise distribution in the US). The bonuses included are two shorts by Watkins (The Diary of an Unknown Soldier and The Forgotten Faces) and the sound is the original English mono mix with French and German subtitles available.
