Spirited Away comes to French R2 DVD this November

Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi in Japan, Spirited Away in the US, and Le Voyage de Chihiro in France, whatever it is called Hayao Miyazaki's latest masterpiece is deserving of DVD releases worldwide and after the initial Asian releases we can now look forward to a French alternative.

The initial details of Buena Vista's treatment of the title in France have emerged and it is looking good for French and English speakers alike. Both Standard (EUR 26.99) and Collectors (EUR 31.50) editions will be available from November 26th, with both offering the film in Anamorphic Widescreen with Japanese, French and English DD5.1 and French DTS soundtracks alongside French and English subtitle options. The only known extra features are Theatrical Trailers and TV Spots, while the only bonus found on the Collectors Edition is a numbered and certified piece of the original film.

Sure to please many fans disappointed with the 'red filter' found on the Asian releases is that Disney France have confirmed with DVDRama.net that this release will contain no such filter. You will be able to read more on this issue when we bring you a review of the Japanese R2 release of Spirited Away in the next few days.

Also worth mentioning is a double pack release of Le Voyage de Chihiro and Princess Mononoke that will also be released on November 26th and costs just EUR 39.50 at Amazon.fr. The French release of Princess Mononoke is presented in Anamorphic Widescreen with Japanese, English and French DD5.1 Audio tracks alongside English and French subtitles. Extra features include the same 5-minute featurette as found on the R1 and R2 UK releases and trailers.

Of course we should also point out that all features are subject to change, especially the inclusion of the English soundtrack and subtitles, though it is looking promising at this point.
