Memories of Murder in January - Menus added!
Optimum Releasing have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Memories of Murder for 24th January 2005 priced at £19.99. Joon-Ho Bong's Memories of Murder is a masterfully directed serial killer tale based on a terrifying true case - that of Korea's first serial killer. Between the years of 1986 and 1991, a small village in Korea's Gyeonggi Province was witness to the rape and murder of 10 women, all in the same grotesque and brutal manner. As the region becomes engulfed in terror at these shocking events, two rural cops (Kang-ho Song from Sympathy for Mr Vengeance and Roe ha Kim) and a special detective from the capital (Sang-kyung Kim) are charged with capturing the killer. To end the reign of fear, they choose to employ any means necessary.
Making intelligent reference to the social situation in Korea at the time - with the government too busy suppressing its citizens to put resources into a proper investigation - and featuring a trio of superb performances, Memories of Murder is blackly humorous, provocative and, perhaps most importantly, nail-bitingly tense.
This fantastic film (reviewed here) comes to DVD with a welcome set of subtitled bonus features, though Optimum's continuing trend of only including 2.0 Stereo mixes is one that will disappoint many...
- Anamorphic Widescreen
- Korean 2.0 Stereo with English subtitles
- Deleted Scenes with optional Director's Commentary (14:26)
- Real Life Memories of Murder - Director Joon-Ho Bong discussing the real events that inspired the film (3:43)
- Cast Interviews (14mins)
- CGI featurette (5:10)
