Up to now, progressive scan DVD players have only been able to deliver progressive scan video output from 525 line US Region 1 DVDs, which is not a lot of use in the UK! The DV88 Plus is the first Macrovision certified DVD player to have been formally recognized by Macrovision as correctly incorporating copy protection for 625p in accordance with Macrovision’s proposed specification. This means that DV88 Plus will dramatically improve picture performance for the rapidly growing ranks of plasma screen and video projector owners, allowing them for the first time to get the best from their Region 2 PAL DVDs. The DV88 Plus delivers:-
  • Stunning filmic picture quality from all DVDs on all types of display
  • Matching audiophile quality sound from DVD-Video discs
  • Superb sound from CD and a major improvement on the already very good DV88
  • Enhanced audio quality and disc navigation with MP3 encoded CD-R/RW discs
Background

At the turn of the millennium, when most DVD players were being cloned out of Far Eastern factories, Arcam designed and built its own player in the UK, using synchronised switch-mode power supplies, independent audio and video clocks, 4 layer boards and many other innovations. The result was the DiVA DV88, which has been acclaimed worldwide as one of the best DVD players on the market, regardless of price. Arcam is one of the few specialists with a full set of DVD manufacturing licences, is the UK market leader in the quality sector and is a major exporter.

With the DV88 Plus Arcam once again breaks the mould. The upgrade of the best-selling DV88 is almost a total rebuild, with every area of performance improved and many new features. The price stays the same, making the DV88 Plus superb value.

DVD-Audio Upgradable

The DV88 Plus can easily be dealer upgraded in the future to support DVD-Audio. As usual, Arcam is developing its own very high quality solution, based around the class leading Zoran Vaddis V processor. In order to extract the best from the new format, the add on DVD-A DAC board uses serious audiophile quality components rather than commodity parts, to deliver the best possible multichannel sound to the listener.
