Director Jonathan Glazer unexpectedly releases a new short film called The Fall

Jonathan Glazer has never been a director to rush into projects, with six years passing since the release of his modern sci-fi classic, Under The Skin. Recently news filtered through that he is due to start work on a film set in a WWII concentration camp, supposedly loosely based on Martin Amis’ novel The Zone of Interest. It being a Glazer film we should be expecting anything but a straight adaptation of the source material, with A24 set to distribute on release.

With production yet to start on the project (expected to be next Spring) we thought it could be anywhere up to 18 months before we got to see something new from Glazer, but it turns out we were wrong. Out of nowhere a brand new short film by the director called The Fall debuted on BBC2 at 10pm tonight.

No introduction was given and no credits were attached to reveal who was responsible. Once it finished we learned that Glazer is the director, although he is reluctant to offer too much fanfare. Speaking to The Gaurdian he said: “I thought it would benefit most from being dropped unannounced,” he says. “I didn’t want to frame it with any expectation.” Long time collaborator Mica Levi has also scored the short and it will remain available online to watch for the next 12 months.

You can watch The Fall right now on the BBC iPlayer.
