March 4th: A great day for Japanese horror fans

Dreamworks have announced that both their recent US remake, The Ring, and the 1998 Japanese original, Ringu (better known as Ring) will debut on Region 1 DVD March 4th 2003. With one dire release after the other, it finally looks as though Hideo Nakata's Ringu will receive the treatment it deserves as the following initial specs confirm...

  • Anamorphic Widescreen
  • Japanese DD5.1 and DD2.0 Audio tracks
  • English and French Subtitles
Details on extra features are scarce right now, Fangoria.com suggest an extended version of the video seen within the movie will be present, while DVDEnfrancais.com list the obvious presence of trailers.

We must not forget though that the very promising looking and well reviewed US remake, The Ring, will also arrive on March 4th. Expect both Anamorphic Widescreen and (sigh), Pan & Scan versions to be available, each sporting DD5.1 and DTS audio options and no doubt a fine selection of extra features that have not yet been revealed.

On a personal note, I'd just like to add that for once I am so happy an American studio remade a much loved Asian movie!
