The Death of Dick Long trailer: Things are about to go south in the South

There’s more than a touch of the Coens in the trailer for The Death of Dick Long. Fans of the 2016 Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe cult indie hit, Swiss Army Man, will recognise the name Daniel Scheinert, who returns to direct his second feature (minus Dan Kwan). The quirkiness of Scheinert’s first solo film seems a little more reigned in compared to the oddball fantasy of his last effort, although the Coen-vibe doesn’t give the trailer too much of its own identity. That said, reviews have been pretty strong so far and similar to his previous release it revolves around death and its repercussions. Watch the trailer for The Death of Dick Long to see what you think.

Holy Crap. Dick is dead. Died last night after band practice, and his bandmates, Zeke & Earl, don’t want anybody finding out how. That’s too bad though, ‘cause news travels fast in small town Alabama, and these guys suck at covering their tracks. The authorities haven’t ID’d the body just yet, but Zeke’s wife and his daughter are suspicious already.

Scheinert has brought together a cast including the likes of Michael Abbott Jr., Virginia Newcomb, Andre Hyland, Sarah Baker, Jess Weixler, Sunita Mani, Roy Wood Jr., Poppi Cunningham and Janelle Cochrane.

The Death of Dick Long opens in US cinemas on September 24 and we’re not sure if it will secure UK distribution at this point.
