Nimic trailer: Yorgos Lanthimos' strange new short film stars Matt Dillon

Despite the important role they play in allowing filmmakers to develop their own voice, as well as providing a start point for a number of feature projects, short films rarely get the love and attention they deserve. However, when someone like Yorgos Lanthimos releases one more people than usual are interested. After the huge success of The Favourite, the Greek director has put together Nimic in partnership with Mini Electric, which looks just as strange as anything he released in the early stages of his career. A trailer for the 12 minute short was released via Indiewire last week and played at the Locarno Film Festival as part of the Fuori concorso: Shorts programme over the weekend. Hit play above to get a quick look at Nimic.

A professional cellist has an encounter with a stranger on the subway which has unexpected and far-reaching ramifications on his life. Returning to the short film with Nimic, Yorgos Lanthimos proposes a refined and lighter version of his disturbing fantasy, preferring to outline the character or more broadly the personality rather than dystopia.

Matt Dillon leads the cast, which also features Daphné Patakia, Susan Elle, Sara Lee, Eugena Lee, Rowan Kay, Anvo Kyle, Lizzy Ceniceros, Florencia Mariotti and Jeffrey Raines.

At this stage we're not sure if Nimic will be released in any sort of capacity outside of Locarno or the festival circuit.
