Jawline trailer: Hulu's Sundance award-winning documentary looks at social media celebrity
With social media now playing such a pivotal role for so many people online, it has led to the inevitable creation of countless celebrities along with it. Hulu's new documentary, Jawline, takes a closer look at this phenomena, putting the spotlight on teen Austyn Tester and his dreams of finding stardom on YouNow. The film was well received at Sundance at the start of the year, going on to collect the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award, as well as being nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. Last year Hulu distributed Minding the Gap, which went onto to secure an Oscar nomination, so it bodes well for this one. Watch the trailer for Jawline above to see more.
JAWLINE follows 16-year-old Austyn Tester, a rising star in the live-broadcast ecosystem who built his following on wide-eyed optimism and teen girl lust, as he tries to escape a dead-end life in rural Tennessee.
As the synopsis above mentions, this is director Liza Mandelup's debut feature film, with much of the focus centred on young Austyn Tester.
Jawline will be available in select US cinemas and on Hulu to stream from August 23.
