Black and Blue trailer: Tyrese Gibson lends Naomie Harris an unexpected helping hand
Director Deon Taylor started out doing daft comedies like The Hustle and Meet the Blacks and has moved into low-budget thriller territory in recent years. Black and Blue remains firmly in the same mode, which will follow on from Taylor's soon-to-be released Dennis Quaid-led The Intruder. The trailer for this one looks a little on-the-nose in places but it does seem to have more to offer beyond hitting typical thriller tropes, asking questions about the relationship between police officers of colour and their respective communities. You can watch the first trailer for Black and Blue above which appeared overnight.
This is a fast-paced action thriller about a rookie cop who inadvertently captures the murder of a young drug dealer on her body cam. After realising that the murder was committed by corrupt cops, she teams up with the one person from her community who is willing to help her as she tries to escape both the criminals out for revenge and the police who are desperate to destroy the incriminating footage.
Deon Taylor directs, with the supporting cast starring Reid Scott, Beau Knapp, Mike Colter and Frank Grillo.
Black and Blue opens in US and UK cinemas on October 25.
