Sorry We Missed You trailer: Ken Loach looks at the destructive nature of the gig economy

Sorry We Missed You (2019)
Dir: Ken Loach | Cast: Debbie Honeywood, Katie Proctor, Kris Hitchen, Rhys Stone | Writer: Paul Laverty

With all the drama surrounding Brexit, the go-to answer for many of our ills has been the decision to leave the EU (whenever that will happen). Yet a decade ago the financial sector ruined the world's economy to the point where very few countries have recovered to pre-crisis levels, leading to the soul-crushing austerity measures that have affected hundreds of millions of lives across the world. Ken Loach's Sorry We Missed You is another hard-hitting drama that looks back on the effects of the 2008 crash on a microcosmic level and the way it impacts one family.

Our own Alistair Ryder reviewed the film at Cannes calling it a "a haunting, urgent film that needs to be engaged with despite its faults, in order to change workers' rights for the better." It is also worth noting that Mark Gillis' UK drama, Sink, also looked at some of the similar issues last year. The first trailer for Sorry We Missed You has just been released by eOne and you can watch it above.

Ricky and his family have been fighting an uphill struggle against debt since the 2008 financial crash. An opportunity to wrestle back some independence appears with a shiny new van and the chance to run a franchise as a self-employed delivery driver.

Loach teams up once again with writer Paul Laverty (I, Daniel Blake) with the cast starring Kris Hitchen, Debbie Honeywood, Rhys Stone and Katie Proctor

Sorry We Missed You opens in UK cinemas on November 1.
