Hoover Street Revival in May
Tartan Video have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Hoover Street Revival for 24th May 2004 with a retail price of £19.99. Hoover Street in the notorious south central district of LA: an area that’s high on crime and low on hope. But through his church and sermons, Bishop Noel Jones, brother of diva Grace Jones, has helped inspire the black community interweaving individual life histories such as the single father struggling to raise his son or the irrepressible Miss Jessie with a heart of gold and a bagful of toiletries, who have found new perspectives on their plights with the events surrounding the Church itself.
Never obtrusive or judgmental, director Sophie Fiennes diligently follows events and people in the community from Christmas to Easter, with the Bishop’s charismatic personality at its centre. Hoover Street Revival is not so much a character study, but rather an affectionate portrait of a place and the people that live there infused with uplifting gospel choirs. But the Bishop’s presence has become so fused with the area that it is impossible to observe events and the aspirations of members of his congregation without recognising his influence. A touching and rewarding experience that shows faith in all its incarnations.
