ADV Films anime releases in March

ADV Films have kindly sent through details on their UK Region 2 line-up for March 2004. They have six new DVD releases scheduled to arrive on 15th March, each carrying a retail price of £19.99...

Final Fantasy: Unlimited — Phase 1 is the first volume of a 25-episode companion anime television series to the popular Final Fantasy role-playing video games. Directed by Mahiro Maeda, one of the most acclaimed anime directors in Japan who was recently hand-picked to direct two of the animated shorts included in The Animatrix, Final Fantasy: Unlimited tells the story of twins on a hazardous quest in search of their lost parents. Boarding a phantom subway, Ai and Yu travel to Wonderland, a chaotic world of amazing beauty and thrilling danger. Accompanied by Lisa, an enigmatic woman they meet on the train, and Kaze, a brooding stranger with a demon-summoning gun, the twins begin an incredible journey that will lead to the mysterious heart of Wonderland.

The DVD features four complete episodes in both English and Japanese-language versions, with English subtitles. Extras include: voice actor/actress commentary; production sketches; key animation backgrounds; preliminary FF:U illustrations; reversible cover, printed character booklet; clean opening and closing animation; and ADV previews.

Pretear Volume 1 is the first volume of a series created by Kaori Naruse and noted anime fantasy creator Junichi Sato (director of the first series of Sailor Moon and creator of Kaleido Star). A mahou shoujo series, Pretear combines elements of the fairy tales Cinderella (new stepmother and evil stepsisters) and Snow White (seven knights instead of seven dwarves). On its 2001 Japanese release, the title was lauded for its intense animation, in-depth characterizations, exciting battle scenes, and its beautiful soundtrack. The opening song “White Destiny” is sung by Japanese singing sensation Yoko Ishida.

The DVD features four complete episodes in both English 5.1 and Japanese 2.0 versions, with English subtitles. Extras include: voice actor interviews, production sketches, clean opening and closing animation, and ADV previews.

Slayers: Return is the second movie tie-in (after Slayers: the Motion Picture) to the fan-favourite fantasy-adventure anime series Slayers. Based on a manga by Hajime Kanzaka (Lost Universe) and directed by Hiroshi Watanabe (King of Bandit Jing, Orphen), Slayers: Return brings back odd couple Lina Inverse and Naga the Serpent in a series of (mis)adventures that are equal parts action and comedy.

The DVD features a letterboxed transfer with both English and Japanese 2.0 audio, with English subtitles. Extras include: Slayers trailers and ADV previews.

The remainding titles for release in March include the latest volumes in two ongoing series and the final volume of Excel Saga...

King of Bandit Jing: Volume Two picks up where the first volume left off with a further three complete episodes in both English and Japanese-language versions, with English subtitles. Extras include: production sketches; clean opening and closing animation; and ADV previews.
