Deadwood trailer: A first look at the long awaited feature-length TV film

There is a certain calibre of TV show that stands out above the rest - The Sopranos, The Wire (pretty much anything written by David Simon) and Breaking Bad are perfect examples - as was Deadwood. Despite a fantastic cast led by one of Ian McShane's best ever performances, a multi-layered script and razor-sharp direction, the show was cut short midway through the third season due to poor TV ratings. Ever since there has been a constant back-and-forth about wrapping up the story with a feature length film, and finally, 13 years after the show disappeared, the old gang have managed to reunite (sadly, minus the departed Powers Boothe), with David Milch back in the saddle on script duties. With post-production wrapped and an air date in the diary for its premiere on HBO, you can now take a look at the first trailer for the Deadwood movie.

The indelible characters of the series are reunited after ten years to celebrate South Dakota’s statehood. Former rivalries are reignited, alliances are tested, and old wounds are reopened, as all are left to navigate the inevitable changes that modernity and time have wrought.

Many of the old faces are back, including Ian McShane as Al Swearengen, Timothy Olyphant as Seth Bullock, Robin Weigert as Calamity Jane Canary, Molly Parker as Alma Ellsworth, Paula Malcomson as Trixie, John Hawkes as Sol Star, Anna Gunn as Martha Bullock, Dayton Callie as Charlie Utter, Brad Dourif as Doc Cochran, William Sanderson as E.B. Farnum, Kim Dickens as Joanie Stubbs, Gerald McRaney as George Hearst, and Keone Young as Mr. Wu.

Deadwood appears on HBO on May 31st - we can only hope it finds its way across the pond as soon as possible.
