Dora the Explorer (her real name for parents who can remember) was a long running Nickelodeon cartoon that clocked up over 172 episodes in 14 years since 2000, and now seems like as good a time as any to bring it to the big screen under the name Dora and the Lost City of Gold (perhaps a weird mash up with The Mysterious Cities of Gold?) Part of the title seems to come from an episode that appeared in episode two, but this time the stakes seem a little higher than a lost teddy bear. The new trailer for Dora and the Lost City of Gold just arrived online, so check it out above.
Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora for her most dangerous adventure ever – high school. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots, Diego, a mysterious jungle inhabitant, and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.
James Bobin directs, with Isabela Moner (one the few stand outs in Instant Family) is taking the lead role, with Eva Longoria and Michael Pena as her mother and father, Danny Trejo as Boots (?!), Jeffrey Wahlberg as Diego, Benicio del Toro voicing Swiper the Fox, Christopher Kirby as Viper and Q’orianka Kilcher as the Inca Princess.
Dora and the Lost City of Gold arrives in US cinemas on August 9 and in the UK a week later on August 16.
