Pain & Glory trailer: Pedro Almodóvar reunites with Banderas and Cruz
A Pedro Almodóvar film somehow doesn't seem complete without one of either Antonio Banderas or Penelope Cruz involved and Pain & Glory (Dolor y Gloria) sees them back working with the director. The synopsis for the film leaves no doubt as to who it is really about, with Federico Fellini’s 8½ surely acting as inspiration. It hits Spanish cinemas in March and given the director's history at Cannes we should expect it to play there before rolling out to other territories. Unsurprisingly, it's a visually striking trailer that doesn't give anything away but does more than enough to wet the appetite. Watch the trailer for Pain & Glory now to get a first look.
A film director reflects on the choices he's made in life as past and present come crashing down around him. This includes looking back on first loves, second loves, his mother, mortality, the ’60s, ’80s, the present day, and the emptiness, a sense of incommensurate emptiness, caused by the inability to go on making films.
It goes without saying that Almodovar penned the script, with Cecilia Roth, Asier Etxeandia, Julieta Serrano, and Leonardo Sbaraglia all supporting Cruz and Banderas.
Pain & Glory opens in Spain this March and we'll keep you updated on a UK release as and when.
