The Hummingbird Project trailer: Jesse Eisenberg and Alexander Skarsgard plan to strike it rich
Writer-director Kim Nguyen must've had his work cut out when pitching a film about fibre-optic cabling. On paper it doesn't exactly scream excitement.. The Hummingbird Project isn't just about engineering and wiring, but how the use of the technology would benefit those working in the financial world, potentially delivering hundreds of millions of dollars every year. It has had mixed reviews so far, and our own Alex Dewing reviewed the film at LFF last year, calling it: "disappointingly replete with bad jokes, ridiculous scenarios, and frankly unbelievable and uninteresting characters." Take a look at the trailer for The Hummingbird Project above to see more.
Cousins from New York, Vincent (Eisenberg) and Anton (Skarsgard) are players in the high-stakes game of High-Frequency Trading, where winning is measured in milliseconds. Their dream? To build a straight fibre-optic cable line between Kansas and New Jersey, making them millions. But nothing is straightforward for this flawed pair.
Anton is the brains, Vincent is the hustler, and together they push each other and everyone around them to the breaking point with their quixotic adventure. Constantly breathing down their necks is their old boss Eva Torres, a powerful, intoxicating and manipulative trader who will stop at nothing to come between them and beat them at their own game.
Salma Hayek stars alongside Jesse Eisenberg and Alexander Skarsgård, with Michael Mando also in the cast.
The Hummingbird Project gets a mid-March release in the US, but no news yet on a UK date.
