Velvet Buzzsaw trailer: Jake Gyllenhaal is an art critic going out of his mind

()

Nightcrawler marked Dan Gilroy out as a talent to watch, while also giving us one of Jake Gyllenhaal's best ever performances. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for last year's Roman J. Israel, Esq. But you can't judge a director off only two releases and Velvet Buzzsaw sees him reunite with Gyllenhaal for this upcoming Netflix release. There's a lot going on in the trailer, from seemingly critiquing the snobbery of the art world, to supernatural and psychological elements. Either way, it looks interesting and hopefully Gilroy can weave it all together into a coherent whole. Check out the trailer for Velvet Buzzsaw above to get a first look.

This is a thriller set in the contemporary art world scene of Los Angeles where big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce.

Gilroy also wrote the script and the supporting cast is a strong one, with Rene Russo, Toni Collette, Zawe Ashton, Tom Sturridge, Natalia Dyer, Daveed Diggs, Billy Magnussen and John Malkovich all making an appearance.

Velvet Buzzsaw can be watched on Netflix from February 1st 2019.
